Our San Francisco Travel Log
France Switzerland & Italy
June 17-23 , 2003
Day One
After a connection flight through Dallas, we arrived at Charles De
Gaulle (CDG) around 10:00 AM Paris time. Overall the flight across was
about 8.5 hours. We cleared customs with no problem and made our way to
the Metro RER station. About a week prior to our trip we had heard that there
was a transportation labor strike. To our relief, the trains were actually
running at a reduced rate. We knew we would be leaving town in three days so our
first order of business was to arrange for seat reservations on the High speed
TGV to Switzerland. We located a rail office in the Gare Du Nord station
and made the seat reservations with no problem. When traveling on the high
speed rail lines in Europe, it is always a good idea to book seat reservations
in advance. They are required and early booking guarantees a seat. Me made
our way via the Metro system to our B&B in the 13th ariondisment. One
other thing we can stress for the first few hours of your arrival in Europe,
secure some "primer money" before leaving home. This cash will add less
stress to your arrival as you will not have to go hunting for an ATM the minute
you arrive.
